Cross-Country Skiing

The bicycle trail network around Mackenzie is currently being expanded. Several trails have been built around town and more are being planed. The District of Mackenzie is developing trails around Morfee Lake, MORATA is planning a downhill trail network on Morfee Mountain and in the surrounding community forest. We hope to make Mackenzie the next mountain biking destination in BC.
Mackenzie is the gateway to the Northern Rockies. For the day hiker, several well established trails surround Mackenzie. For the more adventurous, Mackenzie provides boundless opportunities for exploring the remote backcountry. MORATA is excited to be part of the maintenance and improvement of these trails. The District of Mackenzie is currently improving the Morfee Lake Perimeter Trail.
  The Mackenzie Nordiques Cross Country Ski Club grooms 30 km of trails with 2.5 km of lit trails for cross-country skiing. The Nordiques also host a verity of events over the winter. Three warming huts stocked with fire wood provide great places to take a rest while gliding through Makenzie’s winter wonderland. World class trails, beautiful scenery and low trial fees makes Mackenzie a great place to visit for a cross-country ski.

Backcountry Skiing


Motorized Use

Amazing backcountry skiing is availble just outside of Mackenzie. If you are looking for fresh tracks and untouched powder, the Pine Pass and select drangages around Mackenzie are ideal locations for touring. Although access can be a bit difficult, there is a veriety of terrain availble that makes the effort worth while.
Snowshoeing is a great way to get active and outside at low cost over the winter months. There are many spectacular trails and areas to go explore in the Mackenzie area. For a great family outing or a romantic evening excursion Mackenzie is an ideal place for snowshoeing.
Mackenzie offers an immense array of trails for the motorized trail user. It is truly a sledders winter wonderland. The Rocky Mountain Riders groom several trails and many more trails lay in wait of powder hungry explorers. Summer ATV trails take off right from town providing easy access to the wilderness at Mackenzie's doorstep.

MORATA is a not-for-profit group incorporated to promote outdoor recreation in the
Mackenzie area. Our goal is to work with other groups, government and the community at large
to develop the untapped natural environment in which our town in situated. 

Established in 2016, we are a new group who plans on working with our partners to develop a 
trail plan for the Mackenzie region. One of our key principles is inclusive development 
which takes into account all stakeholders.
